Rooted in Faith

“When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God. (Luke 24:50-53)

Jesus had been resurrected and appeared to His people in some manner for 40 days afterward. The day had come for him to ascend to heaven but before He left He blessed them. I can only imagine the awe that filled those who saw Him taken from their presence into the heavens. It is a vision of hope and affirms the ongoing representation of who He is!

That is what church, a vision of hope, of expectation that the One whom we worship is there encouraging us through His word, uplifting us in prayer and providing us with a feeling of trust and aspiration that one day we too will be with Him.
