Consolation of the Soul
“When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.” (Psalms 94:19)
A warm blanket, a gentle hug, a nice cup of coffee, a mug of hot cocoa, sitting by the fire, listening to your favorite song, a soft chair, a warm bed, a good book, your favorite hobby, a long enduring hug, and let us not forget that good ole plate of soul food, they all represent some level of comfort. But that is not the kind of comfort I want to reflect on. I’m referring to the kind of comfort that speaks to the ache deep inside of us that wants to be fed, that breathing conscious body that gives us life, our soul.
It is the breath of God that feeds the soul and He is the only One who can bring comfort to it. All of the subtle means of things we grab at only bring temporary consolation, but it is the presence of God and His abiding presence that wraps us in His love bringing joy to the soul. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort”. (2 Corinthians 1:3)
