What have you done for me lately?
“As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.” (Luke 17:12-13, 15-16)
“What have you done for me lately?” Words echoed when things aren’t going the way that you think that they should. Is it out of selfishness or greed or are they the thoughts of someone who lacks gratitude in the small things done for them?
It shouldn’t matter if someone has done anything for you to be appreciative or to say thank you. You may not get what you deserve, or should I say what you expect from those you render kindness towards but that’s not why we do things in the first place is it? Unfortunately Christians are guilty of the same thing when God has done something for them.
In the story of the leper in Luke 17 there were ten men who cried out to God but only one of them was thoughtful enough and appreciative enough to say thank you. We’re called to give thanks in all things because it is the will of God for us. So whether it is reciprocated or not, be thankful in all things.
