Unity Through Peace

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” (Ephesians 4:3-6)

What a challenging task the Apostle Paul gives the church at Ephesus. Obviously he recognized how easy it would be to get off track and to be led into discord when relying on one’s own emotional ability. Paul implores that we maintain unity by being peaceful, what a difficult task that is for all humanity. We can’t live in peace when left to our own faculties. Our humanness leads to disagreement and often challenging views. It is in Christ there is peace (see John 16:33). It was relevant then and remains relevant today. If we truly are one in Christ then we are compelled to be one with each other!
