Touch Me

“Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed. Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you”. And the woman was healed at that moment (Matthew 920-22).”A number of years ago a hip-hop artist by the name of M.C. Hammer sang a song entitled “U Can’t Touch This”. He was ahead of his time because who knew that we would be living in a world where “U can’t touch this”. Hopefully that made you smile but what we’re experiencing is not funny at all. Touch is one of the ways we use to communicate with each other. We shake hands to greet, we hug/embrace to express friendship and love, we give someone a pat on the back to express praise, we touch to build relationships, we give and get massages to relieve stress and deepen bonds, as you can see we are touching all of the time and now we are being told, “U Can’t Touch This”.In as much as there are so many things that we are not allowed to touch or encouraged not to because of fear of sickness or even death, there is one touch we should all desire and that is a touch from God.A touch from the Lord demonstrates connection and if you’ve ever experienced His touch you want to experience it more and more. To feel His touch is to feel joy, peace, comfort and healing. His touch is reassuring and encouraging that no matter what, everything is going to be all right. That is what the woman with the issue of blood experienced when she touched just the hem of Christ’s garment. She believed that one small reach, that touch, would bring about the healing she needed.Something happens when you’ve been touched by God and it is His touch that makes us whole!
