He's Still Healing

“Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had (John 5:2-4).”Jesus had quite the fan club while on earth. Enthusiastic admirers, who saw what He could do. His ability to heal the sick created quite the stir and you can only imagine the large crowds that followed Him because of it. One such instance occurred in John chapter 6. There was a pool there and when an angel stirred the water, whoever got in it first was healed. A man who had been coming to that pool for quite sometime was never able to get in first because of His infirmity thus never experiencing healing. Jesus already knew he had been in that condition for quite awhile. It took six simple words from Jesus and the man received his healing (“Rise, take up your bed and walk”). Jesus healed the man but don’t miss one very important point; the man had to also do something. Many prayers have been solicited and going out for God to heal our land. Listening to all of the reports regarding COVID19 we need the miraculous hand of God to not only heal but to restore all of the collateral effects of this disease. Face masks, gloves, taking off your outerwear and washing them once reentering your home, social distancing, cleaning and disinfecting your home, washing your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, stay home when you’re sick…etc. And then there’s the loss of employment, food to feed our families, and lest we forget the need for good mental health as the restrictions are causing high levels of anxiety, stress, and suicide.Jesus is still healing today and sometimes we are asked to do something to receive that healing. One of my mentors once said, “I believe in God but I also believe in penicillin and I’ll take both”. For the man at the pool, if he had not believed and acted on the instruction Jesus gave “rise, take up your bed and walk”; he would have remained at the pool waiting. To rise he had to believe that he could, to take up his bed he had to believe he had the strength, and to walk he had to believe that although he hadn’t done so because Jesus said so, he could. Notice, Jesus healed him but he had to believe that Jesus had healed him and he had to put action to it. It took faith!Jesus is still healing today but it is up to you to decide you will do the things necessary to receive His healing. That will help you to know if you are a fan (an enthusiastic admirer) or a true follower of Christ (someone who truly agrees and believes and listens). It takes faith!
