The Right Team
“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” Romans 14:8Football season. The time of year whereby diehards brush off the jersey of their preferred team and make ready for several weeks of heart pounding, ball throwing, ball kicking, play running, and if you’re lucky, touchdown making celebrations. It’s as if we’re in the game running the play and giving excuse as to why the play didn’t work. True football fans are fully engaged, understand the plays, and no matter what, hang in their win or lose (can someone say Cleveland Browns)? And yes I’m a diehard Browns fan, loyal to my team win or lose. Where does this kind of loyalty come from and how is it birthed?I could say my loyalty is a result of growing up in the city where my team resides however I no longer live there but my homage to them is without compromise. In some ways it is how I exercise my faith. It doesn’t matter where I am; my faith in God is without compromise. There are times when things are going well and it looks like I’m winning and then there are times where things seem to fall apart but I choose to exercise unshakeable faith. Just like I’m comfortable to display my teams’ paraphernalia I am equally as comfortable displaying my faith. Not as a banner for others to see so that I may be looked up too but as a representation of a life that is lived in subjection to the will Christ.I guess you could say I am a “diehard”. Someone who is determined to follow Christ and to accomplish His will no matter one. I hope that have some companions out there who are diehards as well!!“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,” 1 Peter 3:15
