Sacrifice of Love
“For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15Throughout the day we experience opportunities to make choices and there are various factors that influence our choices. They include past experiences, individual preferences, our background, the impact it will have on us financially, our cultural backgrounds and more.Making the right or wrong choice can have a tremendous impact on what the outcome will be. The patriarch Abraham’s choice resulted in a covenant that would benefit his descendants for generations to come; Moses choice prevented him from entering into the Promised Land while Naomi’s choice to return to her homeland became a blessing. But there was a choice made almost two thousand years ago that changed the life of people all over the world. It was Jesus who made the choice to sacrifice His life for ours and it is because of this choice that we have obtained great benefit. This choice, His choice gave us life and hope, hope for life beyond this world and serves as a compelling force for us to desire to share His sacrifice of love with others. English Particular Charles Spurgeon conveys it in this manner; “…Self is the worst enemy a Christian has.”Just as Christ gave His life we are encouraged and compelled to give our life however not by hanging on a cross but by giving and serving others. It is a blessing money cannot buy.
