The Humble Servant

“Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Philippians 2:1-4If you are constantly seeking praise, are prideful, given to exploiting others in an effort to look better than another, you are not humble. Humility is a primary trait of anyone who calls him or herself a Christian.Jesus as God’s Son exhibited extreme humility during His time on earth and He encouraged His followers to do the same:“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:5-11).”The word of God is clear and speaks for itself. Jesus was a servant to all and is the Lord of all. Never think to highly of yourself. In sincere humility “Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you Psalm 37:5).”
