The Holy Spirit Our Influencer

“I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, (Philippians 3:10).” Telling someone about Christ is discipleship. When someone receives the message of Christ, they become disciples. The story of an Ethiopian eunuch and an apostle by the name of Philip is a good illustration of this. As the eunuch was reading from a passage of scripture he didn’t understand, Philip came along to explain it to him. Philip was discipling and the eunuch became a disciple. It was the word of God, the action of Philip, and the response of the eunuch that demonstrated understanding which resulted in conversion. The impact of the bible is far reaching from the unlearned to the scholarly. It’s impact influences actions and attitudes. But the bible does not stand alone. It is the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit that serves as the influencer teaching right from wrong and good from evil. It was the Spirit of the living God abiding in Philip that enabled him to explain the word of God that changed the eunuch’s life. The bible can have a significant impact in the world if we take the time to read it, seek wisdom, and apply it to our life. From scholars like Newton and Einstein to theologians like Martin Luther and Jonathan Edwards the mystery of God is revealed through words written over 2000 years ago and continues to change lives today. However, it is not through earthly wisdom that the will and nature of God is explained but through the Helper, the Holy Spirit that provides the insight, the wisdom, and the knowledge to understand the mystery of God’s word.May your desire, your yearning, and your prayer today be; “…to know Christ, yes to know the power of His resurrection…”.
