The Church

March 1, 2019People go to church for many reasons but over the years church attendance has been declining. Other things grab at the attention and affection of previously committed attendees and weekly services don’t fit in their life anymore. One would have to ask were you going for the right reasons. The writer in Hebrews is clear; “not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching (Hebrews 10:25)”. When you come together as people with similar beliefs it offers encouragement and emotional support. You find that there are others who may be or have experienced some of the same things you have and there is a feeling of connection minimizing the sense of loneliness and isolation. It is the place where there is no judgment (at least there shouldn’t be) because all of us are sinners in need of God’s grace.

There is the church and then there are churchgoers. The church that Jesus built was one that embodies the very nature of Christ and who seek to live a life that represents His nature, His love, and His desire. Church goers are those who believe it’s the right thing to do but may not have the passion to be like Christ and find it easy to replace church attendance with other activities, those who do not have Him embedded in their hearts. The church is not the building, it is believers, people coming together and working together sharing with each other, supporting one another, and loving each other as Jesus did. “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, (Hebrews 10:24)”. If it’s been awhile it’s time to come back together, you’ve been missed.©2018-2019 Mamie Johnson Ministries
