Take Nothing for Granted
“Make sure you don’t take things for granted and go slack in working for the common good; share what you have with others. God takes particular pleasure in acts of worship – a different kind of “sacrifice” – that take place in kitchen and workplace and on the streets,” Hebrews 13:16It’s easy to take things for granted especially if you are of the opinion that it or they will always be there for you. Those who have suffered the untimely loss of a family member or friend will tell you, “Never assume anything”. You didn’t take the time to think that maybe, just maybe, this might be the last time you would see them. Only God knows. This is such a grim way to view life but taking this under consideration gives pause to reflect on how we should live. When we don’t consider others we are essentially devaluing that individual and when we don’t consider our freedoms we are presupposing that nothing will ever change. Today there are people who don’t have hot or cold running water, shelter, jobs, health care, transportation, electricity, heat, a loving family, clean air, and simple indulgences like a cup of coffee or tea. I know some of these may sound trivial (e.g. that cup of coffee) but they become significant when you want them and no longer have them anymore. There are also the other significant considerations like your personal relationships with your family and co-workers and even the brothers and sisters in your church or the occasional people you meet on the street, Christ expects/requires more from us, His followers.Live life without regrets. Since we don’t know what the future holds, treat people well and with respect and honor and do the things that promote love and life. That is what Jesus preached; love, compassion, hope, mercy, grace, forgiveness, and the promise of eternal life.God doesn’t want us living in a vacuum. Live fearlessly, love compassionately, give generously, and take nothing for granted. And most of all live a life of gratitude expressing humility and thanks for everything that God has given you!
