Stop and Reflect

“The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever (1 John2:17).”

In an article from “Stuff Happens” there is a story of a man who loved money and his money came before anything and everything. It is said that before he died, he made his wife promise that when he died she would place his money in the casket with him. The man did die and before the undertaker closed the casket she walked up to it with a shoebox in her hand and placed it in the casket. Her friend asked her if she was crazy enough to put all that money in the casket of that “stingy old man”. Her response was “I promised”, “I’m a good Christian, I can’t lie”. The friend then asked, “You mean to tell me you put every cent of his money in the casket with him?” Her response, “I sure did, I got it all together, put it into my account and I wrote him a check”.

Whether this is a true story or not it speaks of an undeniable truth, you can’t take it with you. In this season of lent, it is an opportunity to take a moment to stop, to look at your life and to determine if the things you desire are the things that please God which are of far greater value than worldly desire.

The world is passing away. Embrace that which has lasting value and that is the word of God!
