Rekindled Love

“Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first (Revelation 2:4).”It’s like the first time you met your significant other and you were excited, filled with passion and wonder, and loved being in their presence. As you took the time to get to know each other you found common interests and could not bear the though of being apart. You realized this was something special, something worth holding onto for the rest of your life.As time moved on familiarity begins to sink in and you discover things that love would not let you see. Somehow the love that ensued in the beginning has been diluted. That is how God feels when we lose our passion and our zeal to honor and worship Him. Who put out the fire?Every moment with God should be just like the first time. He hasn’t changed and His loyalty and love remain steadfast. So take a moment to reignite the flame that you felt when you gave your life to Christ and fan those flames through the reading of His word, active prayer, and deliberate engagement of quiet reflection. You may find that the love you had for Him in the beginning not only is alive and well but also has been set ablaze, filled with desire and explosive joy burning for more of Him.“Never let the fire in your heart go out. Keep it alive. Serve the Lord.When you hope, be joyful. When you suffer, be patient. When you pray, be faithful (Romans 12:11-12).”
