Lord Comfort Us
Incomprehensible, heart wrenching, inconceivable, unfathomable, unimaginable; there are not enough adjectives to express the sudden sadness felt in the loss of nine souls. Today, January 26, 2020, we loss one of the most applauded athletes of all time. Kobe Bryant his daughter Gianna along with seven others are no longer with us. Although we may not have known him personally we deeply feel the agonizing loss of life especially in such a tragic way. Nothing can prepare us for the death of a loved one whether the result of an accident or a long-term illness. As the shock sets in there may be periods of denial, anger, depression, and more. You just want to get through the pain and when the pain is so deep words can’t express what is really being felt.In an unexpected loss we want to know why and yet no response will reconcile the fact that they’re gone. Those of us who stand on the sidelines begin to assess our own mortality for such tragedies remind us that nothing is promised. How can we find comfort in the unexpected? In a season of sadness and inescapable grief may God’s word bring comfort and healing:“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17).”Comfort us Lord...
