Peace in Death

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.” (John 14:1-4)

This scripture is often quoted at funerals to bring peace to those who are left heartbroken by the loss of a loved one. No wants to die but that is the fate of all who are living. But to those who are in Christ while death will come, it is not the end. It is only the beginning because of the understanding and confidence we have in our faith and trust in Christ Jesus. Yes, there is a sadness and grief that perplexes the soul in death but to the one whose trust is in the One who gives life, death is quieted as the soul rests in the promise of everlasting life.

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:55-57)

Death has no power to the one who has faith in Christ and that alone brings peace.
