For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6-7)

Picking a baby’s name is a big decision and one of the biggest decisions you will make as a new parent. Your name identifies who you are and is a source of connection to our identity and individuality. That is why choosing a name should be done with the utmost care. In the genealogy of Christ found in Matthew chapter 1, an angel of the Lord directed Joseph that His name would be “Jesus” saying, “…and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

Jesus’ name means salvation. He is Immanuel (“God with us”), Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace, He is the great “I AM,” He is the Alpha and the Omega, the second person of the Trinity, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace, and as the Prince of Peace, He is the one who brings peace no matter how chaotic or cataclysmic the situation.

“The peace within the soul is not derived from the contemplation of our own faith; but it comes to us from Him who is our peace.” — Charles Spurgeon
