Making Resolutions
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:12-14).”
What is the Apostle Paul talking about here? Obtained what? Paul often spoke boldly of his faith in Christ. That encounter on the road to Damascus (Acts 9) left him shaken but when his eyes were opened and his life changed forever. He may not have known what was ahead of him but his resolve was to serve the Lord despite the challenges and physical hardships he would endure. It was his unwavering faith that would move him toward his destiny.
Making a resolution is about making a decision and for Christians that means making a decision to be more and more like Christ every day. That was Paul’s resolve and he did it even when he didn’t know what lay ahead of him. In essence he didn’t just talk the talk but he walked the walk.
What is your resolve this year? Is becoming a better Christian one of them? I sure hope so because it is when we make Him the focus of our plan that our plan will not fail.
