God’s Word Enables Power

“Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven (Matthew 18:18).”

The church has authority but that authority mustn’t be wielded to one’s own satisfaction. The idea of binding or loosening (exercising authority) is about carrying out the will of God prohibiting what is outside of His will and allowing (i.e., freeing/loosening) what is within His will.

The church has power and that power is to be wielded in love and not judgement and the authority to bind or loosen is not of ourselves but given by God alone! It is the knowledge of God’s word that enables this power the power to enact every work just as Jesus did when done in the manner He instructed.

“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it (John 14:12-14).
