God’s Will vs. Your Will

“Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish (Luke 14:25-30).”

Have you ever wondered why your plans failed? Why your good intentions fall by the wayside and old patterns continue to emerge? Is it possible that the reason for the failure wasn’t that it wasn’t a good plan but that you failed to follow through on the plan because it became too difficult? Well then you have your answer. Plans fail because of a failure to follow through and or you haven’t mentally fixed your mind on the fact that it’s going to take more than mere words to achieve what you set out to do.

Jesus clearly lays out what it takes to be a disciple and it is eye opening to say the least. A disciple is someone who seeks to learn someone who is a student of Jesus Christ. There can be no hesitancy, no back and forth, He must be your number one relationship. And it goes without saying that anyone who sets an objective or goal must do so with Jesus in mind.

Disciples follow after the will of Christ and it is He who should be at the very center of your thought and intentions. Therefore, when you make your plans you are making it in the full intent that it aligns with His will and more specifically His will for you.

When Jesus is at the center, you cannot fail because you are accomplishing His will for you.
