God Speaks
Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.” John 8:47One question that Christians often ask is “how do I know when God is speaking to me”? If you consider how the devil speaks it might help answer this question. Consider a fisherman; Fishermen use bait to attract and catch fish. After placing the lure (bait) on the end of their fishing pole they lower it into the waters and wait for the fish to come close enough for the unsuspecting prey to grab onto it ultimately to their demise. The fisherman is like Satan, he knows what will draw you in and once he has his hook in you it’s hard to get away. Satan’s hooks are the things that appeal to our naturally instinctive appetite (e.g. food, drugs, alcohol, sex etc.).Unlike Satan, God does not use deceptive means to draw us to Him. God comes after us but he doesn’t use a hook or a line. No, He draws us with loving-kindness calling us to a relationship offered through His Son. Instead of a hook God draws us with a cross it is the cross that lures hearts to be transformed which then creates a desire for a relationship with Him. It is that change of heart that begins the relationship and it is through this relationship that you are able to discern the voice of God versus the voice of Satan. Remember, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:” however Jesus came that we “might have life,” and “have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).If it brings life it’s Christ, if it destroys life that is Satan! If you want to hear from God expect to hear from God. He knows you by name (John 10:14-15), it is a relationship established in blood.
