God Fights for Us
“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31We are often told that God is ever present and always with us but there are times He seems so far away. This is not uncommon especially in a world where “seeing is believing”. Elisha was a prophet who had a special relationship with God and was committed to guiding the wayward Israelites back to faithfulness to God. Israel’s enemy Syria was invading their territory and God would send Elisha to the King of Israel to warn him of the things Syria was plotting against them. It was because of Elisha’s interference by the power of God that Syria would not gain success (See 2 Kings 6). Apparently the king of Syria failed to understand that it wasn’t the Israelites they were up against but the Lord God Himself. We also have an enemy that seeks to thwart the plan of God for His people. However our God is more powerful than anything or anyone who would seek to destroy you. When the Syrian army came out to defeat Israel Elisha prayed that God would show his servant that he had nothing to fear because God was going before them (“He said, “Fear not, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them. Then Elisha prayed, and said, “O Lord I pray thee, open his eyes that he may see.” Romans 6:16b).There is more to this story but don’t miss this take away; God goes before His people. When you reach out to Him He goes before you and He is well able to defeat those who would seek to cause you harm.As faithful servants of God you can walk in confidence knowing that He who is for you is greater than those who are against you. It doesn’t matter how big the problem may appear, if God is for us who can be against us (Romans 8:31b).
