Give Me a Clean Heart

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” —Luke 6:45

The word heart is mentioned approximately a thousand times throughout scripture. As a central function of the circulatory system that transports blood to vital organs, we need a heart to live. But God’s word places greater emphasis on the heart not necessarily as a mechanism to pump blood to the rest of the body but as it pertains to the character of one’s heart. We know that without a heart we cannot live however modern advancements in technology have developed a device that will allow some of the sickest heart-failure patients to regain function. That’s good news but technology can’t fix your reputation or your character. King David was a prime example of just that and when he was confronted with the truth of who he was, the character he demonstrated, he asked God for a clean heart and a renewed spirit.” —Psalm 51:10Only God can do that, and He does it when we seek Him with our whole heart. A good heart leads to righteous actions and is where true repentance and restoration begins. “A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.” —Proverbs 21:2
