A Word for Every Day

“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver." (Proverbs 25:11) Not every scripture applies to everyone. The bible was written to a particular people at a particular time but that does not mean that scriptures written hundreds of years ago cannot bring hope and guidance today. Consider Jeremiah 29:11-12, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you." Contextually, God was speaking to a particular people based on a particular set of circumstances that were the result of their disobedience. However God made a declaration to these people that His goal was not destruction but correction and a promise of restoration. Such words brought hope to a people living in captivity so that they would not faint or cease to live in their distress.God’s word brings hope in times of crisis and just like He spoke to specific people at specific times He continues to speak to us today. Children of God, when life is hard He gives us declarations/promises. Every day our goal should be to declare, to make known His words of hope and to speak them over our life, His children in whom He loves. The right word spoken at the right time is a sweet fragrance, precious to the soul, beyond our wildest imagination and is worth more than money can buy.
