The Bill of Rights states freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of petition, the right to bear arms, “No-Quartering” right, the right to equal justice, the right to own private property, and the right to enjoy many other freedoms.As Christians we also have many freedoms. The Apostle Paul admonishes, although we have the right to do anything not everything is favorable or advantageous. Laws are put in place to maintain order but we all know that not everyone obeys the law. Christians are free because of the sacrifice of Christ however that doesn’t mean that you can do or say whatever you like. Paul cautions that our freedom came at a price. The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit is our barometer letting us know when our actions displease God.As we celebrate this declaration of independence, celebrate the freedom that gives us life both now and in the life to come.
