Imperfect and Equipped

“I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them.” (John 17:6-9a)

Jesus' prayers were directed to His Father. In His prayers He lifted up others (his disciples) pointing them to Him because He understood that it was His Father who had chosen them. In His prayer in John 17 He explains He has done what God commanded and now He prays for them. It was in Jesus’ prayer you hear the love He had for His disciples, those who were hand-picked, not necessarily perfect men but men who became obedient to the will of God. His prayer reveals that God took imperfect people to bring about a message of salvation. It was God who chose these men, and it was Jesus who taught them, but it was up to them to believe, and they did. It is in prayer that Jesus affirms that those God chose were equipped to continue the work Jesus had done. It was a prayer of acknowledgement of God’s purpose continuing to be fulfilled. And today it is being fulfilled by you and I! #Jesusprayed #Christ #pray #prayers #Jesus #Godhears #GodAnswers #PrayForOneAnother #prayerchangesthings #seethesonrise #wearehisdisciples #christfollower
