Better Days Are Coming

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
(2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

What is hope? Some illusionary concept for dreamers and those unwilling to put forth any effort to achieve a desired goal or vision? It is more than a concept. Hope is a component that drives initiative to get things done. Hope is often derived when current conditions are less than desired believing good things can come after bad. It is seeking positive change in negative circumstances. But it doesn’t always have to be based on the negative things we experience.

We hope for many things and oftentimes unknowingly as it is a part of our everyday thinking. We hope to get married, we hope to have children, we hope for a good education, long life, good health, a great job, promotion, wealth, and more. But wishin’, and hopin’ and thinkin’ and prayin’ won’t cause you to flourish or prosper. Hope doesn’t promise a positive outcome but hopefully it gives you the drive to do something.

For the Christian, our hope is in Christ. The giver and the sustainer of life who for our sakes gave His life as a sacrifice so that we could have hope, that we would have something to look forward to, that we could be confident in what is to come. It is our hope in Christ grounded by our faith that strengthens us in uncertain times and moves us to seek the will of God.

Life will not always be perfect or absent of trouble but our life in Christ is a blessed hope that sustains us, comforts us in distress, and assures us that there are better days to come.
