Bearing Spiritual Fruit
“The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it (Mark 11:12-14).”
It’s Holy week and on Day 2 of Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem He saw a fig tree and because He was hungry He went to retrieve a piece of fruit and found pretty leaves but no figs. He then cursed the fig tree because it wasn’t producing what it was designed to produce.
Jesus was always teaching even in every day nonspecific situations and this was no less a teachable moment. True fruit bearers demonstrate sound faith, self-control, godliness, kindness and perseverance and it should be clearly visible to those who look see you. “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit (Luke 6:43-44a)”.
We are fruit bearers, bearing spiritual fruit in the lives of others and today there are people who are hungry and looking for fruit bearers, those bearing spiritual fruit. So ask yourself, what fruit am I bearing or do I have no fruit at all?
