You Choose
“Comprehend, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today; the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.” Deuteronomy 11:26-28“You can’t tell me what to do”, “you’re not the boss of me”; words uttered by children who purposely choose to disrespect authority. Such rhetoric may be acceptable as children especially when speaking to their peers but unfortunately when it crosses over into ignoring those of authority who give sound counsel the consequences can be disastrous. The writer of Proverbs 1:24-27 shares these words regarding the consequences of God our ultimate authority:“But since you refuse to listen when I calland no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand, since you disregard all my adviceand do not accept my rebuke,I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you;I will mock when calamity overtakes you—when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.”God gave the Israelites a choice, blessings for obedience, curses for disobedience and the same applies to us today. Sounds simple enough but we should not be surprised regarding how many choose disobedience. I pray your response, whom you will listen too resounds with the words of Joshua:“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” The choice is yours.
