Work for the Lord

Work for the Lord

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving (Colossians 3:23-24).”

We work, we toil, for what? To provide for our families, to fulfill a dream or ambition, because we like working? The answers differ depending on whom you ask. Mother Teresa a Roman Catholic nun was born into a financially comfortable Albanian family. She decided to become a nun at the age of eighteen because she believed she was “called by God to follow Him into service”.

If something is of value to you chances are you are willing to put forth the effort to achieve your identified purpose. However, there are times when there is no obvious reward and yet you pursue it because of an inherent desire or as in the case of Mother Teresa because of an inner pulling or calling which paved her path in her pursuit to follow God.The bible is wrought with scriptures encouraging us to work but not all work is for financial reward. When the work you’re doing is gratifying chances are it doesn’t seem like work at all. Working for God creates an inherent peace that floods the soul and somehow the desire to work more increases. That does not mean you need to quit your current job and enter the mission field. In fact, your mission field just might be right where you are as you demonstrate Christian love and values to those you work with. “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (Colossians 3:17)."
