Wait on HIS Promise
“He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about (Acts 1:4).”
Waiting can be one of the hardest things to do. It often feels like you’re wasting time and waiting too long can make one become a bit irritated and anxious. It’s not so much the waiting that is the concern but the reason for the wait. When it involves incompetence, frustration builds because we don’t know when our needs will be addressed.
Many sightings of Jesus occurred before His ascension. Yes we’ve moved past the resurrected Christ and back into old routines but Jesus wanted to keep His presence alive although He was physically absent. He knew that it would be a troubling time for His disciples once He departed but He wanted them to know that He understood what they felt and that He would send them something, a gift, so that they would know that He would always be with them in spite of His physical absence but they were going to have to wait for it.
Waiting on God renews us mentally, physically and emotionally. Some things are simply worth the wait!
