Unmet Expectations
When you’ve lived right, done what the law requires, followed the principles of God’s teachings, and dutiful in caring for others, you expect blessings. Unfortunately you can do everything that God desires, exercised your faith and instead of blessings you’re hit with challenges and unmet expectations. Such an outcome can cause despondency and hopelessness. This is clearly seen in a woman by the name of Hannah. Her story is found in the book of 1 Samuel 1.Hannah was someone who understood the pain of waiting and wanting of a person who had unmet expectations. Her story illustrates what it means to crave something so desperately and yet fails to see it happen. Her frustration went on for years but she never gave up wanting or making a plea to God.You too may be waiting on something that hasn’t materialized leaving you much like Hannah. However it was Hannah’s consistency in prayer that resulted in the outcome she wanted and that outcome would lead to the birth of Samuel who played a pivotal role in Old Testament biblical history. We never know why God does things the way He does but when it comes to setting expectations, make sure they align with God’s will because unmet just may mean “not yet”. Keep holding on; keep praying, and most of all keep trusting in God.“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).”
