There is Hope

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are allnumbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:6-7Suicide and depression are prevalent in the United States. Studies show that suicide is estimated to be attempted at one per minute and not necessarily at Christmastime as one might think but primarily in the springtime. What tends to spark it are the feelings of despair and there is not one thing that sets into motion this descent into darkness. The loss of a loved one, economic decline, lack of self worth, strife, neglect, bullying, loneliness, rejection, jealousy, guilt, mental disorder etc. can all contribute to the will to take ones life.A number of years ago while working in the corporate world I encountered a woman who suffered with depression. Daily I would come in and close the blinds because the sun impacted by ability to see my computer monitor. After several days of doing this she politely came to me and asked if I would consider leaving the blinds open. She shared with me that it was during that particular time of year her husband took his life via suicide and being in dimly lit and dark places reminded her of the despair she experienced then. We don’t know what others are going through but God does.As we journey through this life God understands that we will have periods of darkness yet He gives us words of encouragement and assurance to get us through them. Life is a gift and we need to know how much God loves and wants the best for us.
