The Good Fight of Faith

“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.”2 Timothy 4:3Overharvesting, hunting, pollution, habitat destruction are the causes of extinction for many species today however they aren’t the only things suffering from the threat of extinction. People who will uncompromisingly adhere to God’s word will one-day fall away from its truth becoming extinct. And we are not far from that day. Just look around and you’ll see many who follow their own principles and laws negating the presence or awareness of God.As a preacher of the word of God Paul cautioned Timothy no matter what, “preach the word” at all times. For it is the word that rebukes, corrects, and encourages (2 Timothy 4:2). Leaders in the church are expected to do this as well (notice Paul said, preach the word, not our opinions). God’s word is not always popular or pleasant but it is right. You may not be called as a leader or teacher in the church but you are a leader in your family and in your circle of influence. We too are charged with knowing and understanding sound doctrine and such teachings should not be left to a few but to everyone whether they choose to hear you or not. So as Paul charged Timothy you too are encouraged to “fight the good fight of faith” for a day is coming when God will judge us all.
