The Blessing of Obedience

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you;I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you,and whoever curses you I will curse;and all peoples on earthwill be blessed through you.”Genesis 12:1-3Abram was someone whom God found favor. Traveling from his father’s home only to be redirected to a place God had purposed for him. He didn’t know where he was going but he trusted that God would get him there.Imagine being told to stop what you’re currently doing and to go to a place where you’ve never been. It takes faith but not in your own ability but faith in the one who is redirecting you. God was asking Abram to make a personal sacrifice but He was also giving him a promise if He acted on what He said. The idea that Abram would be blessed and all those who blessed him would be blessed as well is quite the enticement to act on God’s command.Because of Christ’s sacrifice we too can look forward to blessings in this life and in the one to come!“Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?”Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.” Matthew 19:27-30It is an act of obedience that pays huge dividends!
