A Sorrowful Jesus

“As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.” Luke 19:41-44

When asked for a time Jesus cried, John 11:35 “Jesus wept” is the usual response. But that is not the only time Jesus cried. In the gospel of Luke, Jesus cried over a city suffering from spiritual blindness of the people and those who ruled over them. This blindness would lead to destruction in Jerusalem the city whose name means a “the city of peace”.

Jesus never wants anyone to suffer destruction and has given everyone an opportunity for life. His is the heart of God, demonstrated in human form and now interceding for all humankind. Recognize His passionate expression of grief and sorrow over our disobedience but ultimately see His love and submit to Him. #JesusWept #Godwillcometoyou #theheartofGod #thepassionofChrist #seethesonrise
