Pen and Paper
Paul in one of his letters to the Philippians wrote:Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:2-6People don’t write letters anymore. Letter writing is time consuming and there are so many alternatives to connect with others especially if you want to do it quickly. However in defense of taking pen to hand to communicate with others demonstrates a personal closeness to the person you’re writing and represents the feelings you have for them.I get excited when receiving a hand written note and no matter how much mail I receive, I’ll always open the personal one first. Usually getting to a quiet place, I can visualize the writer sitting right next to me and hearing their voice as the words leap from the page. The Apostle Paul is well known for writing letters. He often wrote to the churches He visited, encouraging them in the faith and reminding them of his love and prayers for them. They were personal, heartfelt, and deliberate, born out of His love for God and His love and for the new Christians. He cared about them but mostly about their spiritual growth. There may be someone in your life that has influenced your faith and helped you on your spiritual journey. Why not take a moment to let them know what their influence means to you. Just a simple pen and paper can be significant encouragement in the life of spiritual mentors.
