Peace is Coming

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”John 14:27I’m often on the road and I find it frustrating with hurried drivers making careless decisions however today was different. One of the roads I frequently travel was uncharacteristically quiet. It’s Christmas, one day out of all of the year that all seems quiet, serene, and practically peaceful. For several blocks there was no traffic on a road that is normally hectic and ear splitting. Why so quiet, so settled, so serene? It’s Christmas. The brief moment of peace I experienced reminded me of the peace that Christ brings. That is what His birth ushered in; peace that transcends normal circumstance or situations. In a world filled with infighting, political unrest, senseless killings, addictions and so so much more, there is something about placing a focus on Christ that quiets even the most unruly and troubling circumstance.A day is coming when all of the things we worry about, all of the things that bring us concern, all things that break our hearts, all things that cause division and strife, will be put to rest. What a glorious day that will be. Christmas doesn’t end at midnight; it is an ongoing inhabitation of the knowledge of not only the presence of God but on the promise of God. May His peace inhabit the heart and soul of all who believe not just today but until the day that He returns.
