Passover
Well it’s here, Passover, the day Christians are reminded of the gift of life we received. To fully understand it you would have to go back to the Israelites captivity in Egypt and God’s plan of deliverance. It was the last plague, the death of the firstborn (Exodus 11). The Lord gave Moses and Aaron instructions regarding the Passover and the feast of the unleavened Bread. They were also told to commemorate this day for the generations to come to celebrate their freedom from slavery (Exodus 12).History helps us understand the past and in the case of the Passover, it demonstrated the power of God to overcome the most seemingly unconquerable situations. From water turned to blood, frogs, lice, flies, livestock, boils, hail, locust, darkness, and the death of firstborn, all demonstrate the power and the will of God. God heard the cries of the Israelites and provided the impetus for the Israelites to achieve their freedom. He has not changed.Tonight while attending a Seder (a ritual involving a retelling of the story of the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt) I was reminded of the length that God went to gain the freedom of His people. It reminded me of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, “And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:17b-19)”.Today, never forget the length Christ went to achieve eternal life for all who believe. Oh how He loves us!
