Nothing but the Truth

Dancing is fun but dancing around the truth is problematic. Candidly speaking it’s called lying. Research has found that 60 percent of people lie at least once during a ten-minute conversation (you’re probably examining your day to determine if that’s true). You might agree that’s a lot but it begs the question “what are they lying about”?Some misrepresentation of the truth is done to prevent hurting another’s feelings. Additionally today there is a term oft used referred to as “my truth” meaning “seeking to justify a controversial personal stance or action because people are not allowed to argue with “your truth”. Despite that, the bible is clear, “The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked make themselves a stench and bring shame on themselves (Proverbs 13:5)”. This is a tough one because while wanting to spare hurting another with the truth, the truth has power and cannot be and should not be understated. After teaching in the temple, Jesus was sharing the differences between those who are followers of Christ and those who are not. True followers of Christ adhere to His teaching and His teaching is truth, His word is truth (John 8:31-32).Being truthful is difficult even for Christians but it’s so important to be honest even if and when it hurts. That doesn’t mean that a truthful response should be spoken to denigrate another. Being honest builds relationships and a good relationship is based on truth and honesty but lies in a relationship can sever it. Speaking the truth is a demonstration of spiritual maturity and Christian love that we all should strive for.“Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” Ephesians 4:25
