Let Justice Reign Down
“I said to myself, “God will bring into judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time to judge every deed (Ecclesiastes 3:17).” Over the last few days I’ve been silent. Partly due to pain experienced in a recent surgery however, that is not the only pain I’m experiencing. I’ve sat silently and watched the injustices in our world played out over and over again and this week has been no exception. How can we sit quietly and not speak out against the ongoing mistreatment of African Americans and consider ourselves Christians? We, people of faith, leaders in the church, leaders in the community, Pastor’s, Elders, Deacons or whatever we call ourselves must take a stand. We stand in our pulpits preaching the gospel of Christ, the power of God unto salvation and yet exhibit powerlessness when it comes to defending what is right. God goes before us yes but there is also some action we can take. People of God are not only African American, they are all races, creeds, and colors and if one is suffering then we all should be bearing their suffering and mistreatment. No one chooses what family to be born into, no one determines whether they will be Black, White, Hispanic, Indian etc., no, but no matter what race, creed, or socio-economic group you belong one thing is common. We are all human and God calls us to “love one another”; (“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another; John 13:34-35)”. Throughout the years African Americans have been treated as insignificant or peripheral and we are tired. If you want to see change, if you want to experience peace, if you really are following after the principles of God then you must speak out, we must seek justice for all.The pain being experienced in our cities and communities today cannot be resolved with a pill or avoidance. No. It can only be resolved when fairness and justice is being shown to all. We want peace but peace is more than the absence of violence, peace is freedom from disturbance, peace of mind. We don’t always have to agree but we should be able to respect one another. “The Only Thing Necessary for the Triumph of Evil is that Good Men Do Nothing”.
