Is Jesus Enough?

“Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe.”  John 6:35-36Are we there yet, the end of Lent? No, we’re only halfway through this time of spiritual renewal. Already longing for a time of completion so you can pick back up what you laid down I suppose. But that is not the intent of this season of sacrifice and withdrawal. It is supposed to be an opportunity to identify with Christ to come closer to Him to realize the power at your disposal and not only that, but also to rethink what really matters. What is it you really need? You’ve set goals and achieved success; you have an amazing career, bought the dream home, found your soul mate, accumulated a decent nest egg and you’re still dissatisfied.   These are temporal things and only bring pleasure for a moment. The job becomes frustrating, the soul mate is a distant past, the dream home becomes a money pit, and the nest egg is slowly disintegrating, why is so much emphasis placed on things that have no eternal value? Christ had a conversation with a man who also seemingly had everything he ever wanted but what he was really wanting was perfection (eternal life); …“if you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me (Matthew 19:21)”.Don’t rush through this time of growth and empowerment. It is the best sacrifice you can ever make. Ask yourself, “Is Jesus Enough”?
