Hump Day

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16Hump day, the middle of the work week the day that you’ve climbed that proverbial hill to get to the weekend. Doing the same thing day after day and week after week can be pretty boring and mundane. It’s not that you don’t have anything to do but over time you develop a lack of interest in the things that at one time brought appreciation and joy.Boredom is something that each of us may experience at one time or another but this lack of enthusiasm or motivation may be the result of other things such as worry, displeasure, and dejection. Rather than giving in to the effects of boredom you can change how you view the things you do.Paul suggests, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving (Colossians 3:23-24).” Knowing that your work is not going unnoticed and that there is a reward for doing so demonstrates not only a sense of responsibility but also a love for God.How we live and what we do is the greatest representation of God and is a light for others to experience and see that there is joy in serving Him.
