Hope in Despair
“Let not your hearts be troubled, Believe in God believe also in me.” (John 14:1) If you are a disciple of Christ you are in good hands. When He walked on the earth, He demonstrated great power performing miracles, restoring lives, encouraging the lost, and prior to His death reassuring His followers. Jesus knew that His life on earth would be brief but that would not be the end. Prior to His crucifixion He met with His disciples to help them with the emotions they were feeling upon His departure. Don’t miss this, Jesus is about to die, and His concern is for those He would leave behind. It was Christ’s words of comfort based on His love that would bring them relief. His words were to comfort them, but His promise would be what would sustain them “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.” (John 14:15-16) And, it is the promise we can confidently hold onto today. “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” (2 Corinthians 4:16-17)
