God’s Deliverance

“Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt was 430 years. At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the LORD’s divisions left Egypt. Because the LORD kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the LORD for the generations to come (Exodus 12:40-41).”

It is crucial that we not forget the things that shaped us, our history. Not only personally but also as a world and as a community. History teaches us intentions, movements, human experience, our successes and our failures and if given proper attention, history will help us to learn from our mistakes so that we don’t repeat them again.

Slavery is a tough subject but it is a subject to be shared and taught. Whether choosing not to teach it is born out of the pain of revisiting it, it is in revisiting it that one can see the influence it had and continues to have on society today. Moses often repeated how God delivered Israel from their slavery at the hands of the Egyptians. It was to remind them of what had been done for them, how He answered their prayer, to humble them and to help them to realize had it not been for the Mighty hand of God, they would never have experienced deliverance.

When the prayer has been answered, when you get what you want, when you receive what you asked Him for, remember Who it was that delivered you from it.
