God Has A Plan, Even in Confusing Times

Now the LORD was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. The child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned Abraham held a great feast. But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking, and she said to Abraham, “Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.” The matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son. But God said to him, “Do not be so distressed about the boy and your slave woman (Genesis 21:1-3, 8-12).”

One person can ignite and create the mental anguish and disturbance of another. Just look at Abraham’s family. You have a wife who takes on the role of God, a concubine who has been thrown out, a child who through no fault of his own is cast in the middle of this unrest and found in the desert sobbing. Sarah created a perfect storm. Yet it is God sorting it all out and bringing about his plan in the midst of all of this confusion. And He can and will do it for you too!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
