Fulfilling A Promise

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” “…no word from God will ever fail.” Luke 1:26-28, 34, 36bWhen you hear the message of the birth of Christ, His conception, His parentage, and His purpose, it sounds incomprehensible, practically unbelievable. Mary Jesus’ mother also had a difficult time believing something seemingly impossible could occur. It wasn’t exactly the plan she had for herself but as the angel Gabriel told her of God’s plan she asked one question “how”.The prophet Isaiah foretold that the Messiah (Jesus) would be a descendant of King David, which was Joseph, Mary’s betrothed. It was God’s plan put in place many years prior to Jesus’ conception and birth. What Mary conceived and would deliver was a part of a well thought out plan that God put in place for all humankind. Mary’s story exemplifies how God keeps every promise He makes. He promised to redeem the world from sin and He did it through His Son.Mary’s story, God’s promise, is demonstrated in the birth of Christ and is filled with hope. If God has made you a promise He will fulfill it and it may be accomplished in a most inconceivable way. Mary didn’t ask if God could do it she asked “how”.If you are waiting on the fulfillment of a promise from God trust in His word and know that He knows “how” and most of all He knows “when”!
