Cry Babies
“The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, “If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!” Numbers 11:1-6They are easily overwhelmed and cry at the simplest and smallest thing, not in control of their emotions and become upset without good reason, and out of self-pity. You can find them everywhere, at home, at work, at church, in government, in the streets. They are people who feel entitled. Often referred to as crybabies. No one wants to be referred to as a whiner or a complainer, the people who are never satisfied with what they have but they do exist. Moses worked with a group of crybabies. He was charged with leading them out of captivity and although they had what they needed, they weren’t satisfied. They had clothing, shoes, and food but they weren’t content. How soon they forgot their oppression and hard labor in Egypt. God was with them leading them by a pillar of cloud in the day and a pillar of fire by night. There was food in the form of manna and water supplied from a rock, and yet, with all of their daily needs met (miraculously I might add) it was still not enough. If you’re looking for contentment and happiness in people or possessions you will never have enough because it (happiness/contentment) cannot be found in things. There are many reasons for human discontent but much of it can be summed up in one word, “desire”. We are admonished to be content with what we have and not to be bogged down with what we don’t have and with worry (Matthew 6:25-28). If you have everything you need, you are blessed! There’s nothing wrong with tears but if you must cry, cry for the lost, those who don’t yet know Christ and who have neither a desire nor a longing to know Him. Those are the tears worth shedding.
