Come Have a Drink
I could use a drink right now and apparently so can a number of others. U.S. sales of alcoholic beverages rose 55% in the week ending March 21 according to market research firm Nielsen. The Associated Press (published April 2, 2020) reported U.S. online alcohol sales jumped 243% during coronavirus pandemic. There is some truth that alcohol can reduce stress, relax you, and help your mood but before you pull out your credit card or run down to your local state store hear this. The bible doesn’t say you can’t drink in fact Paul urged Timothy to drink a little wine because of a stomach ailment he had (1 Timothy 5:23). Jesus’ first miracle involved turning water to wine (John 2:3-11) but that too is not the drink I’m suggesting.Lest you think I’m on my way out to purchase a nice bottle of Cristal, the drink I’m speaking about is one that Jesus offers that not only quenches thirst but also gives life.“On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified (John 7:37-39).”Thank Jesus we have new life that we can drink from whenever we like. So I think I’ll get my spirits from the fountain that never runs dry.
