Blessings for Obedience

“He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.  Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.”  Deuteronomy 8:3-4God’s chosen people had been led out of Egypt and because of their unbelief and fear, they wandered in the wilderness for forty years before they would reach the promised land. God reminds them that it was because of their disobedience, their lack of trust, and their lack of faith in Him that they had suffered hardships, trials, and delay in reaching the promised land.  Yet, because of His great love for them, He provided for their daily needs, food, clothing, and sandals for their feet, the things necessary to  preserve them from the dangers faced during their long travail in the wilderness.  All of this showed His ongoing faithfulness to His people.Today, there is applicability for all believers. When God provides you with direction, He expects His followers to obediently follow Him. Fear, unbelief, disobedience, rebellion and distrust (simply stated “sin”) prevents God’s blessings. However, the opposite is also true, obedience results in the blessings and favor of God. His word expresses such, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).”God has great blessings in store for those whose walk is upright and who walk in obedience to His word.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield;the Lord bestows favor and honor;no good thing does he withholdfrom those whose walk is blameless.
